Italian craft beer has come a long way. In the early 2000s, craft brewing barely existed here. Today Italy has hundreds of microbreweries producing everything from Pilsners to Imperial Stouts, and Italian craft beers regularly win international competitions.
But agricultural brewing — where a brewery grows its own ingredients — remains genuinely rare. Podere 676 is one of a very small number of certified agricultural breweries in Italy.
What "agricultural brewery" means in practice
The Italian designation "birrificio agricolo" is legally defined: to qualify, a brewery must produce a significant proportion of its ingredients on its own land.
At Podere 676, this isn't a technicality. We grow: - 700+ Cascade hop plants — the same cones that aromatics your glass - 4 hectares of organic barley — CCPB-certified, grown in the Roman countryside
The distance between our hop field and our fermenters is about 200 metres. That kind of provenance is extremely rare anywhere in the world.
The six beers — and the numbers behind them
Every Podere 676 beer carries a number. Not a name. A number.
N° 51 — Pilsner Light, crisp, floral. Brewed from row 51 of the hop field. Perfect as an introduction or as a session beer on a warm afternoon.
N° 3 — Kölsch Golden, delicate, with a clean fermentation character. One of the most approachable beers we make.
N° 5 — IPA Hop-forward, aromatic, distinctly Italian in its balance. The IPA that non-IPA drinkers often find converts them.
N° 50 — APA American Pale Ale with citrus notes and soft bitterness. Very drinkable, very versatile with food.
N° 14 — Bock Malty, warming, complex. The cold-weather beer. Reddish amber with a long finish.
N° 11 — Stout Dark, roasted, smooth. Pairs remarkably well with the Birramisù — our beer-infused tiramisù.
Organic certification
CCPB (Controllo e Certificazione Prodotti Biologici) is one of Italy's most rigorous organic certification bodies. Holding CCPB certification means every ingredient in every batch is traceable to its origin and meets strict organic farming standards.
Few craft breweries in Italy hold this certification. We do, and it shapes every decision we make — from field management to fermentation.
Where to try the beers
The best way to experience Podere 676 beers is on-site at the guided tasting tour — 30 minutes from Rome, every Thursday through Sunday. The context of the farm changes how the beer tastes.
